How to vote

Vote absentee by mail

Alabama requires a qualifying absentee-voting reason. Review the official eligibility list before applying. The application by mail is due October 27; an in-person application is due October 29. Follow the ID, signature and witness/notary instructions. Hand-deliver by November 2, or ensure a mailed ballot arrives by noon on November 3. Military and overseas rules differ.

Alabama has no general early-voting period. If you qualify for absentee voting, follow the county absentee election manager’s in-person application instructions.

What ID should I bring?

Bring an accepted photo ID, such as an Alabama driver license, photo voter ID, U.S. passport or another state-approved ID. Review the full list and expiration rules; free photo voter ID is available.

Registration and accessible voting

Register by October 19 for the November 3 election. Check your registered address and polling assignment with Alabama Votes. Alabama does not offer Election Day registration.

Contact the county elections office for accessible equipment, assistance or language services. Ask a poll worker for help if your name or ID cannot be verified.
