How to vote

Vote absentee by mail

All registered voters may vote early in person. Absentee voting by mail requires a qualifying reason. Your county must receive the application by October 23 at 5 p.m. Sign the return envelope and obtain the required witness signature. Return the ballot by November 3 at 7 p.m. Military and overseas rules differ.

What ID should I bring?

Bring one of the accepted photo IDs: an S.C. driver license, S.C. DMV ID, S.C. voter registration card with photo, federal military ID or U.S. passport. Free voter photo ID is available. If a reasonable impediment prevents obtaining photo ID, review the affidavit and provisional-ballot process.

Registration and accessible voting

The general-election deadlines are October 2 at 5 p.m. in person (unless the office has weekend hours), October 4 at 11:59 p.m. online, fax or email, and October 5 postmark by mail. Confirm your registration through MySCVotes.

Contact the county elections office for accessible equipment, assistance or language services. Ask a poll worker for help if your name or ID cannot be verified.
