How to vote

Vote absentee by mail

You do not need an excuse. Your county must receive your application by October 23. Apply early; the ballot must travel to you and back.

Follow the application’s ID instructions and the ballot envelope’s identification and signature instructions. Return your ballot so the county receives it by November 3 at 7 p.m. A postmark alone is not enough for most domestic voters.

What ID should I bring?

Bring an accepted photo ID. A Georgia driver’s license is accepted even if expired. Other accepted forms include a valid government-issued photo ID; a student ID from a Georgia public college or university; a valid government employee photo ID; a valid U.S. passport; a valid military photo ID; or a valid tribal photo ID.

A free voter ID is available through a county registrar or Georgia Department of Driver Services. If you arrive without accepted ID, ask a poll worker about a provisional ballot and the steps and deadline to resolve it.

Absentee ballot return and tracking

Use the return envelope and check your ballot’s status through My Voter Page. Drop boxes have designated locations and access hours; they are not necessarily open around the clock. Check your county before using one. Military and overseas voters should check their separate rules.

Accessibility and language assistance

Contact your county election office for accessible voting equipment, assistance or language services. You may choose a helper if you need assistance because of a disability or difficulty reading English, subject to the state’s helper restrictions. Your employer, employer’s agent or union representative cannot act as your helper.

Gwinnett publishes official English and Spanish ballots. Ask your own county about available translated materials and assistance.
